International speaker Dr. Zeiad Yossry, Professor of Neurosurgery and Parkinson's Disease, participated in the 12th Congress of the Pan Arab Neurosurgical Society, in collaboration with the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, the Pan Arab Neurosurgical Society, and the Moroccan Society of Neurosurgery. The congress took place October 18-20, 2018, at the Atlas Hotel, Marrakech, Morocco. Dr. Zeiad Yossry delivered a lecture during the congress's Functional Neurosurgery session titled "Enhancing the Benefits of Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease." Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a common surgical treatment for Parkinson's symptoms such as stiffness, slowed movements, and tremors. The surgery works by modifying abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Deep brain stimulation surgery can improve symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as:
Tremor.
Difficulty swallowing.
Slow movements.
Involuntary jerking or twitching movements known as dyskinesia.
Gait changes, known as Parkinsonian walk.
